Climate Change Forum on Local Climate Action Planning
Recently, a number of communities in the Delaware Valley have developed plans that focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to clean energy at the local level. These plans establish a baseline for how communities are generating greenhouse gas emissions and develop strategies to reduce those emissions in buildings, transportation, waste, agriculture and other sectors. This forum will help participants better understand how these plans are created, what issues need to be addressed, and where a community can start.

The forum will feature the experiences of Chester County and Middletown Township, Bucks County, which utilized the PA Department of Environmental Protection’s Local Climate Action Program (“LCAP”) to prepare and publish their Climate Action Plans, as well as the West Chester Area Council of Governments, which engaged a consulting firm to produce their Energy Transition Plan. Speakers will discuss how they approached their public engagement process, how they identified and prioritized mitigation strategies, how they are working to implement plan recommendations and goals, and lessons learned along the way.

This will be an interactive forum, with ample time for discussion and questions with the panelists. The panel discussion will be moderated by Liz Compitello, AICP, Manager, Sustainable Energy, DVRPC

Presenters and panelists will include:
Rachael Griffith, Sustainability Director, Chester County Planning Commission
Nick Valla, Assistant Township Manager, Middletown Township, Bucks County
Will Williams, Sustainability Director, Borough of West Chester, Chester County

Additional panelists will include:
Francine Locke, Chief Sustainability Officer, Delaware County
Jon Lesher, Principal Environmental Planner, Montgomery County Planning Commission
Neale Dougherty, Director of Sustainability, Bucks County Planning Commission
