Q. Cities and regions with the greatest land use controls have been tended to be coastal areas that now have serious housing affordability problems (e.g. Boston, California). It seems that our land use regulations are better at suppressing housing supply, than promoting equitable housing supply. How can our regulations better promote equitable growth and not just suppress it?

What are some constructive examples from across the country of how the dominance of single family zoning can change to become more equitable and less racialized?

@Karin - every city is different but anecdotally, I hear a fair amount in the Chicago area about A: crime and B: education
